先に Flash Player 9 Update 3 beta が公開されていると伝えたが、この Update 3 beta は Konqueror や Opera など、と言うよりむしろ Firefox 以外のブラウザで Flash を見る事を妨げる物だ。
かつて Adobe は Opera 等をサポートすると一旦は公言していたのだが、今やその宣言は単なる大言壮語に過ぎなかったと明らかになった。クラウディオの解説によると、公開されたプラグインは XEmbed Protocol Specification というオープン・スタンダードをサポートせず、XEmbed Extension for Mozilla Plugins だけに対応している。何と素晴らしいことか。

この件と関連して、昨日の冨田さんが関係するエントリ「Opera Flash プラグインからの脱却へ」について InfoWorld の Tom Yager による解説記事を参照。

Opera offers consumer electronics vendors a browser for embedded and set-top use as well. Opera is ubiquitous, but even it can't control what happens when a user clicks a link to a media file.

Opera Software has decided to attack this issue head-on, promising to implement Flash-like rich, scripted multimedia document functionality directly in its browsers. That's a bold and potentially market-changing move.
